weak signal from B-Box2

Hello, sorry for writing this post in english but my language skills are horrible and still having difficulties with my french yet...

I just got connected to Belgacom, i purchased the pack with TV, Internet and fix phone line. So far i am quite amazed by the low quality of the signal that is coming from the B-Box. I live in a 2 bed appartment and have place the box on one of the bedrooms. If Im in the living room I can connect with my laptop at a very very slow speed (since the signal is quite low) and with my smartphone no chance at all!!!

I have tried already changing the location of the box and changing the channel also but nothing has worked so far.

I am not an expert on this things that´s why I hired the technical support from Belgacom to install everything but apparently they didn´t spot the low quality of the signal inside the appartment before leaving.

In addition to this the TV signal gets lost from time to time (probably onece or twice per hour) is not a major thing but it´s strange to have this happening. I guess this is also related to the strength of the signal coming from the b-box? Is there any way I can boost the wifi signal to cover my whole appartment? I have read of connecting additional routers, internet enhancers, and repeaters but no idea what is more convenient and efficient.

Thanks for your support.

I believe you are connected in VDSL if you have a BBOX2 ?!?!?

Could you please post the result of a speedtest (http://www.speedtest.net) ?

Also, do you use WIFI or you are connected with a cable ? If you use WIFI, make sure the WIFI on your BBOX is enabled because maybe you are using the WIFI of a neighbour (who didn' t secure his WIFI) and that's why it is so slow ...

If you are using your own WIFI and the connexion via the cable is OK (you may speedtest both) maybe your BBOX have problem with the WIFI, then, better do an exchange of the BBOX.

Hi Mata,

First, sorry for my English.

have you problem with your wifi signal only or with your internet connexion too ? (test with speedtest to be sure that your internet speed is good/normal).

I have heard that the wifi signal is often weak with the bbox, so, if it's impossible for you to connect your PC with wire, you can added one "wireless extender" (look here for exemple http://www.shscomputer.be/main.php?p=prix&idcat=ACWIFI&tri=prix2&asc=0) or one set of "CPL adapter" (look at http://www.shscomputer.be/main.php?p=prix&idcat=RECPOR&tri=prix2&asc=0).

Maybee, it is also possible to use one "wifi key" with one extended wire on your pc (just for use the pc in one place but with the reception in one other place, if you understand what i mean) i made this to my son in law and he have a beter signal as before.

attention, i'm not a specialist, so you need to ask confirmation in the shop (but i'm sure at 90%)
Installing Dévolos = problem résolved (no installing sur multiprises)
Hello and thanks for all your suggestions so far. Geo, here is the results for the speed test. I decided to run two, one in the area of the appartment where I have the problem and another one next to the BBOX2.

1) This is the one where I have the problem: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2072876382.png
The download speed is 1.61 Mbps, the upload speed is 1.73 Mbps and PING 18 ms.

2) This is the one next to the BBOX: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2072865674.png
The download speed is 19.37 Mbps, the upload speed is 2.33 Mbps and PING18 ms

I do run my computer through WIFI conection. I only have one VoIP phone connected directl to the BBOX.

I believe this readings are not normal (the first ones) but not sure what the problem is. Any suggestions?

Thanks everybody

I believe that something is interfering with the WIFI but what ?????

I had the case in the house of a friend : poor WIFI (the modem was downstair and the PC upstair) ... I moved the BBOX to an other place (not so far away) and the problem was solved ...

hello Mata,

Indeed, your first reading is not normal, so it's your wifi signal who have problem, your intenet connection seems good.

You said that you already tried to change the location of the Bbox2 and to change the wifi canal, if those actions have not resolve the problem, maybe it's your appartment's wall who decrease the signal, so you need to connect one "acces point", one "wireless extender" or one kit of "CPL adapter".

Hello everybody:

Thanks for all our suggestions. I bought an extender Belkin today and that completely fixed the problem. It was very easy to set up and it really changed the situation 100%. If anyone is having a similar probelm i can fully reccomend belkin signal extenders. Easy to set up and they really work.

If anyone is interested in the details of the device I bought here are the details: Belkin dual-band wireless Range Extender Multibeam Techollogy. I bought it on MediaMarkt for 90 euros.... probably i could have bought a cheaper one but since I don´t know too much about this things I went with the suggestions i got from Belgacom.

Thanks for your help again!!
