Installation of Fritzbox 5690pro

Greetings everyone,

I have recently installed a Proximus Fiber connection in my house, however i have significant drop-downs of my connection when i try to connect to meetings/ stream videos.

I have purchased the Fritzbox 5690pro, in order to see whether the activation of this product, together with some same repeaters from Fritz will improve my situation.

Would it be possible to ask you how you connected the Fritzbox 5690pro at your home?

I will connect the Fritzbox to the ONT, replacing Proximus modem (and connect the ethernet cable coming from the ONT to the WAN slot of the Fritzbox).

I have first registered the new Fritzbox in MyProximus, however i havent clicked on the ''activate'' option.

When i enter the Fritzbox 5690 pro settings, i select ''Other internet Provider'', connection with external/fiber router, is data access required (here i input ''no'', as i click on DHCP connection, then on VLAN settings i insert the number ''20'' and the Pbit option i leave it ''0'' .
Then i reach the point of providing the username and password and this is where i get confused, as for username i input the code found on Myproximus ......@PROXIMUS but what do i insert for password?

In the end, after i finish the process, do i need to go to Myproximus app and enable the new equipment (de-activating the Proximus default router) or it will happen automatically?

Many thanks for your help,

Vasileios

@Gataros Before we go any further: the ONT is the modem with a fiber connection. In this case, you replace the router (the Internet Box or the older b-box 3).

The fiber FRITZ!Boxes, like the 5690 Pro, can also be used as a fiber modem as they have an SFP slot. FRITZ provides a tutorial for Proximus, but it’s in French.

In the configuration you described, there is normally a config preset in the wizard in order to use Proximus with an external modem. Do you have installed the latest software update? FRITZ!OS 8 and above do normally support all the possible configs for Proximus.

Thank you very much for your prompt response.

Apologies for the wrong terminology used, in my case i would indeed need to replace Proximus Internet Box (the router indeed).

In my case i cant use the Fritzbox 5690pro as a fiber modem, as i have long distance from the ONT (basement) to the ground floor of my house, where the router will be placed.

Would it be possible to provide me with the details to use the Fritzbox as router please?

Many thanks for your support,

Vasileios

If you’re replacing an Internet Box, then you need to use VLAN20 with DHCP,  not PPPoE.

In that case, there is nothing to configure in MyProximus (only needed to replace the ONT)

As far as I can tell, the path you followed (by choosing “Other Internet Provider”, no credentials, VLAN 20) is indeed correct. As @titi70 said, there’s no PPPoE credentials in this case. Therefore, you don't have to worry about the @PROXIMUS login and password.

… and for future reference, if you want to connect it by replacing also the modem under a single VLAN setup. The procedure is similar:

  • Use the GPON module provided in the FritzBox! 5690 pro package;
  • You will need a fiber cable LC APC → SC APC (not included) to connect the Proximus fiber to the FritzBox!
  • Register your FritzBox! into MyProximus
  • Contrary to the FritzBox! instructions provided by AVM (link above), the ‘power/Internet' light will never stop blinking. Ignore the issue.
  • Do not choose the ‘Proximus’ profile in FritzBox! but ‘Other Internet Provider’ and set VLAN to 20 (under the ‘change connection settings’)
  • No credentials needed
  • Done

If by mistake you select Proximus profile your upload bandwidth may be limited to around 4Mbit instead of the provisioned fiber speed. This has been tested with FritzBox! OS 8.03.

I hope this helps!

This also applies to any other FRITZ!Box model connected to the ONT provided by Proximus. There’s an issue with the “Proximus” profile in FRITZ!OS for quite some time…
